Flash Player for viewing animations and movies

Adobe Flash Player is a free to license for distribution software for viewing animations and movies in the swf format using computer programs such as a web browser. Flash Player is a widely distributed as proprietary multimedia and application player that uses vector and raster graphics, a native scripting language called ActionScript and bidirectional streaming of video and audio.

The Flash Player was originally designed to display 2-dimensional vector animation, but has since become suitable for creating rich Internet applications and streaming video and audio. Flash is a common format for games, animations, and GUIs embedded into web pages. Flash Player is available as a plugin for recent versions of web browsers (such as Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey, Opera, and Safari) on selected platforms. The plugin is not required for Google Chrome anymore since Google integrated the file into the distribution. Adobe states that each version of the plugin is backwards-compatible, with the exception of security changes introduced in Version. Periodically, Adobe updates Flash Player with new features or fixes to minor problems. The Automatic Notification and Update feature allows Adobe to automatically notify you when an updated version of Flash Player is available so that you can install it right away.

This Link directs you to a page that provides the version of the currently installed Flash Player running in the Web browser you're using. The page also provides a list of the most current version available for each operating system and Web browser combination. If you are using different browsers you may have to install separate flash player for them. For example, Internet Explorer uses a different Flash Player than other browsers, such as Firefox or Google Chrome.

Operating systems, such as Linux, uninstall and reinstall Flash Player as follows:
  1. Close all applications.
  2. Run the Flash Player uninstaller.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Reinstall a newer version of Flash Player from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.
