Domain names are valuable assets for companies. The ownership of domain name is determined by the information recorded in the central Whois database under the Registrant information section of a particular domain record. You can verify this record from whois page of the registrar.

Even though the whois database is stored in a secured server, there are many incidents of domain theft by hackers. They generally tampering with the Whois database in an attempt to wrest control over a domain.
There are ways to control this menace by taking the following steps:
  1. Keep full control over your domain name: Ensure that the domain is registered under your name. Check it from the whois page.
  2. Get the domain name control panel and password details from the registrar. You should keep these a secret at all times. For Web Circuit India domains you can access your control panel at http://domain.webcircuitindia.com
  3. Use a complex password - We suggest minimum 8 characters constituting meaningless, non-recognizable words with alpha numeric characters and symbols. (For Example:xSz#23W$) If you forget the password, you can easily recover it.
  4. Keep your e-mail safe: All changes to the domain account occur through the e-mail address of the registrant. If there is another email address that is trying to modify the information in your account, the registrar will not consider it valid. So never use insecure e-mail IDs and common e-mail ID in your office for registering the domain.
  5. Beware of fake mails : If you received any suspicious email regarding domain name changes alert Web Circuit India immediately. Do not respond those such mails. Please read our post Phishing for domains.
  6. Keep an off-line (paper/ hard) copy of your Whois records. Get a print out of the receipt and all other information which is sent by your Registrar via email to you at the time of registration.
  7. Lock your domain: You should always lock your name, It is very important. Read the post .......
  8. Make payments on time. Renew your domain name as soon as you receive a reminder from Web Circuit India. If the stipulated time of payment expires, you lose your domain name, and it might be to someone with a liking for the same name.
  9. Make it as trade mark: Corporates and business organisations can establish their domain name as a trademark. The laws concerning domains concern directly the trademark rights you have in using the words for naming your domain. This will give you a substantial advantage for keeping the name of your domain.
